Redundancy
There is a lot of evidence that there is no such thing as "a job for life" these days. Businesses are much more dynamic in their organisational structures. Redundancy is a horrible experience for most people when it happens. However it can also be a great opportunity to move your career in a new direction.
If you are made redundant:
-
Don't panic. Take the opportunity to think long and hard about what you really want to do next.
-
Draw up a list of up to 40 companies who you think might be good to work for and who could utilise your skills and experience.
-
Drop a list of recruiting companies you might wish to work with. As a part of that process decide what values and approach you expect from a good recruitment company. Don't be afraid to ask them how they will use your details and work with you.
-
Identify 3 referees and get their permission to quote them as a referee.
-
Call us to see if we can help you. Even if we can't help you immediately, we are always happy to offer advice.
-
Network, network, network. Use your job search as a passport to constructive communication with people who can assist you to move on.
-
Treat your job search as a job. Allocate time, plan it and execute your plan. However enjoy your increased leisure time to do the things you've wanted to do for ages but never had the time to. You might be back in employment before you know it!
